After my mom’s diagnosis, I found myself diving deep into what caregiving means. Caregiving extends beyond the medical field and is a role many of us take on in various aspects of our lives – as parents, friends, and even as support. Caregiving is about attending to the needs of others who may not be fully independent, and as caregivers, it is crucial that we prioritize self-care to ensure that we are able to give our best selves to those who rely on us. Self-Care is essential to being a caregiver and is a conscious and intentional act aimed at taking care of our own needs. When we care for ourselves and fill our cups first, we are better equipped to support and care for others around us.
